NoodleTools & Citations

We recommend you use NoodleTools to cite your sources when doing research. This guide explains how to do that using the MLA citation format.

General Formatting in MLA Style

MLA formatted papers:

  • Use 12-point font
  • Use Times New Roman font (or other serif fonts)
  • Have 1-inch margins on all sides
  • Indent the first line of each paragraph a half an inch from the left margin

The First Page

  • At the top left of your first page, type:

Your Name

Your Instructor's Name

Course Number or Name


  • Double-space it
  • Center the title on the next line, following the rules for capitalization (no italics, bold, underlines)
  • Indent the next line and begin typing your text

Page Numbering

  • Include your last name and page numbers in the upper right-hand corner of every page

Long Quotations

  • Quotes longer than 4 lines should be written as a block of text a half an inch from the left margin
