ELA 11 - Research Paper: Citations

Use the tabs below to find resources for your English 11 research paper.

All sources you use for your paper will need to be cited. Here are some tips on doing that using NoodleTools.

GETTING STARTED

Create an Account

first time only

1. Click the Register link on the NoodleTools page.

2. After clicking Register, you'll be prompted for the trial username/password:

  • Username: memorialhs

  • Password: library

3. Use your student ID and your regular district password to create your account. You'll also be asked to enter your initials and the last 4 digits of your phone number. If you don't have a phone number, you can use the library's: 6309.

After this first time creating your account, you will simply go to the link and enter the username and password you set up.

Set Up a New Project

  1. Log in to NoodleTools
  2. Click the Green +New Project button
  3. Name your project
  4. Select your citation style (most MHS teachers use MLA)
  5. Select Advanced citation level
  6. Click Submit.

CITATION ENTRIES

About

There are basically 3 ways to add citations to your NoodleTools Project.

  1. Import - you bring in a citation from one of our databases
  2. Quick cite - you copy and paste a citation from another source
  3. Input by hand - you enter all the information in each field

Read or watch below for directions on each one.

Import from a Database

  1. Log in to NoodleTools and choose your project
  2. Go to the database where your source of information is
  3. Find the Cite tool
  4. Make sure its MLA
  5. Click export or send to Noodletools
  6. Click Import Reference
  7. Go back to your NoodleTools Sources tab and refresh. You should see your citation

Quick Cite (Copy/Paste)

  1. Log in to NoodleTools and choose your project
  2. Choose where your source is coming from
  3. Choose what type of material you are citing
  4. Click the "Quick cite: Copy & paste a citation" link at the top right
  5. Copy your citation and paste it in
  6. Fill in anything else it is asking for
  7. Click Save

Input by Hand

  1. Log in to NoodleTools and open your project
  2. Click Sources on the left, then +New Source on the right
  3. Choose where your source is coming from
  4. Choose what type of material you are citing
  5. Work your way down the page, filling in as much information as you can
  6. Click Save at the top

Shortcut for Books

  1. Log in to NoodleTools and click on your project
  2. Click the Sources tab on the left
  3. Click the +New Source button (top right)
  4. Choose the Print or in-hand and Book
  5. Search by ISBN (or change to title)
  6. Select the matching book and click Import Selected Source
  7. Check the information and click Continue
  8. Click Save

IN-TEXT CITATIONS

In-Text Citations

NoodleTools won't create the in-text citation for you, but it will tell you what it should look like.

  1. Log in to NoodleTools and open your project
  2. Click Sources on the left
  3. Click the 3 dots to the right of the citation you want to use
  4. Select In-Text Citation and read the description

PRINTING/EXPORTING

Bibliography/Works Cited Page

  1. Log in to NoodleTools and open your project
  2. Click on Sources on the left
  3. Check to see that your citations are sorted alphabetically
  4. Click on the printer icon, select Formatting Options, and review them
  5. Click on the printer icon again and select Print/Export to Word
  6. Check to see where your document is saving and rename it
  7. Open your document and make sure it's Autosaving to OneDrive
